We open our 26th season by celebrating one of the most iconic symbols of science fiction which began broadcasting 50 years ago on this date.  Join us to celebrate with acclaimed author/screenwriter Steven Barnes (who novelized the Star Trek: Deep Space Nine episode "Far Beyond the Stars"), New York Times best-selling author David Mack (co-writer of two DS9 episodes and author of dozens of Trek novels, including the 50th anniversary novel Best Defense), and more guests to be announced.  The evening will include an interview with Barnes about his experiences both personal and professional with Star Trek, several of our author guests reading from their work, and a performance of a comedy skit about Trek fandom written by New York Times best-selling Trek novelist Dayton Ward.

Keith R.A. DeCandido has been a Star Trek fan since birth, having grown up watching the show in reruns on Channel 11 every weeknight in New York City. In 1999, he became involved in Trek more professionally, having written sixteen Trek novels (several of which hit various best-seller lists), thirteen novellas, seven short stories, six comic books, and the coffee-table book The Klingon Art of War in the past seventeen years. In addition, he's written articles, reviews, overviews, and more on Trek for Tor.com, Entertainment Weekly, and Star Trek: The Official Magazine. Outside the world of Trek, he's written dozens of novels, short fiction, comics, articles and more, both tie-ins and his own universes, most recently the Marvel Tales of Asgard trilogy of prose novels; Stargate SG-1: Kali's Wrath; the urban fantasy novel A Furnace Sealed; three novellas in his Super City Cops series; short stories in numerous anthologies; and tons more. He's also a second-degree black belt in karate, a professional musician, an editor of two decades' standing, a veteran podcaster, and probably some other stuff he can't remember due to the lack of sleep. Find out less at his cheerfully retro web site at DeCandido.net.

Steven Barnes is an African-American science fiction writer, lecturer, creative consultant, and human performance technician. He has gained a unique understanding of the relationship between myth, energy and consciousness, and has shared it with thousands of students and clients since 1980. His newest course is The Hero’s Journey: Life Mastery For Modern Men.  In addition, Steve has lectured at UCLA, Mensa, Pasadena JPL, taught at Seattle University, hosted the “Hour 25” radio show on KPFK, been Kung Fu columnist for Black Belt Magazine, been a "Starred Speaker" at the L.A. Screenwriting Expo, and been profiled in countless magazines, newspapers, radio shows and webzines.

A NY Times bestselling author, Steven has written comic books, animation, newspaper copy, magazine articles, television scripts and three million words of published fiction published in seven languages, making him one of the world’s most honored, diverse and popular writers.
He has written several episodes of Baywatch as well as the Stargate SG-1 episode "Brief Candle," the Andromeda episode "The Sum of its Parts," and several episodes of The Outer Limits, including the Emmy-winning "A Stitch In Time."  Barnes' first published piece of fiction, the novelette The Locusts (1979), was written with Larry Niven.  He has been nominated for Hugo, Nebula, and Cable Ace awards, and is a winner of the Endeavor and the NAACP Image Awards.

Once a nationally ranked karate competitor, he now makes his home in Southern California with his wife, American Book Award winner Tananarive Due, and his son, Jason.

David Mack is the New York Times bestselling author of roughly thirty novels of science fiction, fantasy, and adventure, including the bestselling Star Trek Destiny and Cold Equations trilogies. Beyond novels, Mack’s writing credits span several media, including television (for episodes of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine), film, and comic books. Mack’s latest published works are the novel 24: Rogue and the short stories "Our Possible Pasts" in the anthology 2113: Stories Inspired by the Music of Rush, and "Midnight Rider" in the horror-fantasy anthology Out of Tune, Vol. 2. Summer of 2016 will see the publication of Mack’s Star Trek: Legacies, Book II: Best Defense, part of a new trilogy celebrating the 50th anniversary of the venerable science-fiction franchise. Mack resides in New York City with his wife, Kara.

Emily Asher-Perrin
could sing before she could talk, or so the story goes. She comes from a family of entertainers, and spent most of her younger years doing theatre and speech team, writing stories, and reading between classes. When she was teased as a kid, it was often due to being a great big geek who preferred to talk about robots and aliens and lightsabers and magic. She works on the internet, which is pretty fabulous, as it allows her to talk and get excited about all the science fiction and fantasy that she loves most, and call it her job. She enjoys cooking and reading out loud, and her favorite holiday will always be Halloween.
